In the market for a sweet OLED TV but don’t want to remortgage your house? The 55” Hisense H55O8BUK has finally hit the sweet spot – coming in at just £999.
Previously shipping for £1199 – an already affordable price when compared to most OLED TVs of the same size – Currys PC World has seen fit to slap the set with a massive £200 discount.
At present, you won’t find another 55-inch OLED for under £1000 (believe me, we’ve looked). Of course, if you’re sceptical about the quality of an OLED TV that’s so much cheaper than the competition, you shouldn’t be – the H55O8BUK scored a high 9/10 rating when we put it through the testing rig.
In our verdict for the TV, we detailed: “The Hisense O8B is a strong first effort from the Chinese manufacturer, offering all the benefits of a new 4K OLED TV but at a considerably lower price point. This ultra-slim model sports an attractive design and an excellent level of build quality, along with a decent set of connections and a brace of remote controls.”
There are a few caveats to be noted with the TV however. While Hisense’s interface is clean and easy to use, it’s nowhere near as innovative as the likes of LG’s webOS, but if you’re after something that just gets you to your favourite streaming services quickly, then you’re in good hands.
If we’ve completely jumped the gun and the term ‘OLED’ just sounds like complete tech jargon, then allow me to explain. Offering rich colours and noticeably better blacks, OLEDs take things one step further than standard 4K TVs by illuminating each pixel individually, as opposed to lighting the whole screen from behind.
What you end up getting is a display that much better mirrors what filmmakers have in mind when they shoot a particular scene, with a whole spectrum of colours coming through as intended.
It’s incredibly rare to see any OLED TVs drop below the £1000 mark, so if you’ve been holding out for the right moment to upgrade, don’t let this gem of a deal pass you by.
