Which version should you buy?
The old DS is pretty hard to find these days, so just pick a colour and pay as little as you can for your Lite.
Three good reasons to go Nintendo DS.

Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
A handheld Zelda that can stand proudly alongside its grown-up console brethren. Probably the richest game experience on a pocket-sized platform to date.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies
The 360's classic arcade shooter is due to hit the DS in March next year. The neon-fringed vector graphics look perfectly at home, and the gameplay has apparently been brilliantly transposed. Expect an epidemic of lateness to work nationwide.

Dementium: The Ward
Think the DS is just about cute, kids stuff? Thing again. Dementium is a fully-fledged first-person survival horror game that pushes the DS about as far as it will go. Very impressive, very scary, and very sadly, only available in the US right now - fingers crossed for a UK release.
