Of course fun as all these all-ages games may be, we all know what I was really at the event to see, especially as I heard about most of them from X06 and have been waiting with bated breath ever since to get some real hands-on time. And my word there was a lot to get excited about.
Halo 3
The game we're hearing the most hype about at the moment is undoubtedly Halo 3. Save for Crysis on the PC no single game has managed to carry so much publicity, or had so many gamers hopes rested on it as Bungie's latest creation.
Riyad is attending a dedicated launch event, not to mention preparing a full review for Tuesday of next week, prior to Wednesday's launch, so I don't want to give away too much and spoil his fun, but as an avid gamer myself I simply have to say something!

Walking into a room lined on either side with five Xbox 360s all sitting at the multiplayer loading screen all the press members present immediately rushed, as a man, to grab the nearest controller and get shooting.
The experience, without giving anything away, was good, scratch that, it was amazing. This really is going to be a must have game and it pains me that I have to hold off giving away any too much detail. I highly recommend you check back next week for the full low-down.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Most of us in the office agree that Call of Duty 2 represented the pinnacle of the World War 2 shooter genre and everything since hasn't been topped it. Thankfully, with CoD4, the franchise is back in the hands of Infinity Ward, not Treyarch who were responsible for the less-impressive CoD3 and rather than make yet another WWII game, of which we are frankly rather tired, this instalment is played out in a modern setting.
While the multiplayer beta has now been on Xbox live for a while, the single player aspect is still a bit of a mystery, or was. Starting with the basics, you play either the side of the US marines or British SAS, obviously with the short time I had with the game I can't comment on how closely or not the two plots integrate, but the enemy, at least, is the same.

To call CoD4 visually stunning does no justice to the amazing graphics on show. While Bioshock may have left me speechless with its art-deco styling and gorgeous portrayal of a start sub-aqua Valhalla turned hell, Modern Warfare is on a whole other level with its representation of the stark, desolate and war-torn cityscape wherein the level I played on was set.
Better still, the whole experience is silky smooth and deeply immersing, the AI was spectacular as well, for example when being shot at by unseen enemies from a set of windows covering a clearing, a few rounds dotted into the building was enough to suppress the fire long enough to dart into the space, grab a rocket launcher and blast the houses to kingdom come. Before the event, I had some reservations as to how this one would play out, but after getting some hands-on time I'm totally sold on the game and will definitely pick up a copy on launch.
