Sony Announces PlayStation 3 Slim - Updated

Sure, we may have been sceptical at first but we've all known a slim PlayStation 3 was to be expected from Sony for a while now. What you don't want, therefore, I imagine, is confirmation. No, you want details… so here they are.
The PS3 Slim, then, is 32 per cent smaller, 36 per cent lighter and munches 34 per cent less power than its predecessor. I'd argue that only the latter will make a huge difference as less power means less heat and my 60GB PS3 turns my bedroom into a sauna! The PS3 slim will have a 120GB hard drive - suspiciously coincidentally the same as Microsoft's Xbox 360 Elite.

I'm not sure about the looks. While I'm often heard moaning that more things should be matte black, I think that the glossy finish of the PlayStation 3 worked will with its curved form. Speaking of which, the Slim also looks a little too squat and square-ish for my liking. Admittedly, though, the only images currently on offer from Sony are pretty rubbish so I'll hold judgement until I can get my eyes on a ‘real' system.
The Slim will launch at $299 in the US and €299 in Europe, while the current model will be dropping in price. I'm guessing, therefore, that in the UK we'll probably see the Slim launch at £299, with the current model dropping to £279 - with no basis other than that just ‘feels' right to me.
So, who's buying one?
Update:
More images, check the next page for more than you could shake a stick at! And I've come to the conclusion I think it looks decidedly naff.
Update 2
Colour me over-cynical. Amazon has the PS3 Slim up for at £249.99, which bodes well.

I know that design matters, and beautiful gadgets appeal more, but if that's the biggest criticism, then things really aren't too bad!
