Well now, what do we have here? Eurogamer's Spanish arm reckons its super-secret inside sources have leaked it some information about Sony's next-generation PSP2. It's sketchy stuff, but as Eurogamer has been on the money regarding new iterations of PSP before, we'll pay attention just in case.

Supposedly the PSP2 will come with graphics power in the 133 million polygons per second region, besting the original Xbox - no small feat for a portable console. That power is said to be coming via a four-core Imagination PowerVR SGX543MP graphics chip - as powering the iPhone 3G S. That seems all well and good. It's hardly unlikely a new PSP wouldn't have some impressive graphics power so as rumours go this is a pretty plausible one.

Apparently Sony "should not be delayed much beyond the end of the year" with an announcement of the new PSP, which seems surprising given the PSP Go isn't even out yet. As I've said before and will no doubt say again: stranger things have happened.

I don't think an iPhone could ever substitute for a proper portable games console. It's good for five mins on the tube, not much more.

@prag fest I do indeed remember those days. I had a Matrox card but desperately wanted a Power VR.
