Microsoft has been hyping its forthcoming game 1 vs 100 for what seems like an age so it's nice to finally hear some news about when we'll be able to play it - in beta form anyway. On July 10 (or this coming Friday as I write this) 1 vs 100 will hit public beta, enabling players (or should that be testers?) to compete against thousands of other similarly inclined Xbox Live members in the quiz-show based title.

With a format pretty much identical to the Endemol TV show, 1 vs 100 lets players compete as "The One," "The Mob" or "The Crowd" whatever that means - I have never watched the programme and never plan to. Microsoft reckons that in doing so it is "delivering the first truly interactive game show experience to the living room."

The quiz which, if you hadn't guessed, takes place against real people - shock, horror! - will offer not only prestige to the winners, with a leaderboard to climb but also prizes. Prizes will include "MP3 players, digital cameras, phones, laptops, HDTVs and holidays" but who cares? It's the winning that counts, not what is won!
