Sony Ordering Slim PS3s for July Delivery?

Conceding, if you will, that the much-rumoured 'Slim' PS3 probably wasn't a fake after all, you might be interested to hear the latest word on the street is that Sony has put in orders ready for "the summer," when it's now suggested the redesigned console will launch.

Taiwanese site UDN reckons that Sony has signed production agreements with two manufacturers - Foxconn and Pegatron to be specific, both manufacturers of the current PS3 - to deliver Slim PS3's by July. That makes a certain sense; stock levels of the current PS3 are said to be running down and quite a few sources expect a price drop is coming in August when a July-delivered Slim PS3 could easily have been shipped out to retailers ready to launch en force. The summer is, of course, the perfect time for a console launch - what else does anyone have to do in the holidays but sit indoors playing video games? With the air conditioning on, obviously.
Clearly we're well into the realm of hearsay but the shear number of different sources claiming 'insider information' regarding an imminent redesigned, slimmer PlayStation 3 launch do suggest a favourable signal-to-noise ratio. I'm keeping my sceptical hat on, but I'm not going to be at all disappointed if this rumour does play out.
