Am I the only person who doesn't want this rumour to play out?
Firstly if the redesign looks anything like that cheap matte black version we saw with the PS2 writing, I don't want to know. Also I think the smaller form factor should come much later in the consoles life. My PS3 takes pride of place with my piano black PC set-up. A much smaller console somehow looks less significant. I still have my fat version, but if I placed a tiny ps2 slim on my desk it would look pathetic.
Lets not forget the PS3 is roughly the same size as the 360, probably smaller when you factor in the inbuilt power supply. Do we really need a smaller SKU? Can't Sony just minimise the guts of the system and leave the exterior the same?
Maybe the real redesign will look good this is Sony after all and it does desperately need a price drop. But I'm really not sold on a new design. I'm gonna be very conservative and say (asif you dont know by now) that I want the PS3 to remain how it is.

I think it needs to look more like some of the nicer Blu ray players and I hope they package in the freeview TV recording..... (but they probably wont)

My "normal sized" PS3 its just fine on it's side behind the plasma on top of the TV stand.

I do like the current PS3 design but a slim one will probably look fine. Though I imagine they will put the power supply in a seperate brick, which would be a pain to fit next to my 360 one, making it a spreading of bulk not a slimming.

If it is true, going by their PSPGo pricing policy, it could cost £349.99 or something equally silly.
P.S. Having seen the new movie, I still don't like Pegatron's look :P.

What's wrong with you all? You're supposed to be tech fans! Small is beautiful, remember?
I'm all for a smaller sized PS3: Less clutter on the pile of electronics in the living room, and more wife acceptance factor!
At the moment I have a dvd upscaler, an amplifier, an xbox360 and a VCR (remember those). Hopefully, all, apart from the amp, can be replaced by a PS3 and play TV accessory soon!

@Bluepork: You want to replace a 360 with a PS3? That's contraversial. Discuss...

this is what i've been waiting for along with a price drop. i doubt play tv would be integrated though. i thought it only works in uk/europe and i can't see them making a special case for us. they'd never allow it to be so fugly either.

@ Chris - Welcome! You seem to be new to the Internet, so may I point you in the direction of one of a number of gaming sites frequented by puerile, angst-ridden teenagers where you'll find this topic has been done to death more than a Michael Jackson joke ;)
Oh, and for future reference, inciting fanboy wars is never a good move and generally frowned upon :p

These things would be on the boat from China already for a July launch so a little more info would be known by now. Also Europe is always the last to get the updated product as the US and Japanese markets are the largest and use the NTSC standard. Getting the PAL version for Europe is normally later so I would think this will miss the summer holiday period - August bank holiday a maybe though??

@smc8788 - I'm with Chris on this. If its a living room media solution bluepork is after, surely the 360 is the overall winner.
Even my wife now casually flicks over to the 360 (with our harmony universal remote) if there's nothing worth watching on Sky movies or VirginMedia. That kind of integrated family acceptance takes some doing.....

Oi! I've just bought a PS3 to go with my 50" Pioneer - held out for since Jan in the hope of a slim PS3 - then gave up and too the plunge. And now 3 days after reciveing it, THIS! It's still boxed and unopened, so is it worth sending back??? ....and I was going to break it in this weekend!

Firstly if the redesign looks anything like that cheap matte black version we saw with the PS2 writing, I don't want to know. I love the current design; my PS3 takes pride of place along side my PC. I
