Microsoft: No New Console Any Time Soon Comments

Something that Microsoft should have pointed out from the very beginning at E3 was the fact that the Natal device that sits beneath/on top of your TV, is in fact a completely separate piece of hardware. According to Microsoft, that’s how the system is able to recognise both visually and audibly, motion capture in real time and is no way like the Wii's infrared bar.

isn't something like Natal going to need a LOT of processing power? Surely the cost of Natal will be about the same as another xbox console? I can't see many people being swayed by that, however cool it is. Seems like another dreamcast hardware mistake. Implementation before it's time.

Cost hasn't even been discussed, I can only assume that's the reason why. It has to be a powerful piece of kit under the bonnet to do what they demonstrate and purport to do. With no doubt a HD capable camera and microphone, its cost has to be around £150. When you consider Wii-Fit being £80, that wouldn't be a bad price in my opinion. But we will have to see in the coming months when more information and release dates are more forth coming.

Well, he's certainly not denying it either - in fact I'd say it's more likely from that extra interview. I would have thought it was a no brainer - it would encourage current owners to buy a whole new console and not just the peripheral. I also wonder if it will cause problems for arcade owners. If it is backwards compatible with games such as burnout paradise surely that would at least need some sort of patch for each game, and thaat would not be possible for arcade owners.
