If you've got an Xbox 360 then from 1-4 May you'll want to be on Xbox Live for Xtival (as in Xbox Festival). Aside from promising a bunch of "competitions and tournaments to rock, and loads of exclusive HD movies, music and game downloads to check out," Microsoft is also offering Gold membership to any Live users without it for 72 hours, free of charge.

Ensuring all Live subscribers have a Gold membership for the weekend may ruffle the feathers of a few paying members - what do we get for free? However, it does make sense for Microsoft to ensure as many Xbox 360 owners as possible can be involved in the various activities it apparently has lined up.

The nature of those activities is unknown for now, but the implication is they'll be worth getting involved with. It's not like there's much else to do on a bank holiday weekend, anyway. And if previous Xtival's are anything to go by, there should be something for everyone to enjoy.

The weekend can't come too soon!
