how long can the ps3 go on with in-house developed exclusives? I'll wait until E3 to see if anything excites me..

I feel sorry for you, it's clear to me you have been brainwashed by Microsoft into believing that the PS3 has no good games. It's been proven time and time again that it has plenty, more so than the 360 infact.
Its clear to me, Xbox owners are pretty irate right now, posting garbage like this, because their 360 has absolutely nothing exclusive to look forward to in 2009. It's slowly dawning on them, Microsoft sold them another "4 year turd" that ran out of steam due to it's rushed and feature incomplete launch.

And yet the Wii is the sales leader this time. Nintendo is smarter than everyone thinks it is...

@Martin.
What a bizarre little rant that was. Where did the xbox come into it?

I think Blu-Ray is a big reason for the increase in sales of the PS3, they seem to be hitting a sweet spot of £10 for pretty recent titles.
Personally, I think the Wii has a lot going for it still too, although I know lot's of people that do not use theirs anymore... There's plenty of great games for it, plus they're cheap.

I can see that my comment was a bit ambiguous so let me elaborate. I was actually referring to Wii sales. I'm sure there are plenty of serious gamers who've never bothered with the Wii due to the lack of quality games and was suggesting that the sales may have been even more impresive if this was not the case.
Going back to your point though I do own a 360 and will not consider buying a PS3 until it is at £199. I personally do not see the current value proposition compared to the 360. In my opinion the 360 has a far larger library of quality games, (sometimes far) superior versions of multi platform titles, a significantly cheaper entry point and Xbox Live.
I'd love to get a PS3 however I'm waiting for Sony to convince me it's worth it, mainly with more quality games and a cheaper price. Right now the main selling point to me is Blu-ray and I don't buy my consoles for their movie playback abilities.

Thought the first comment was referring to the PS3 (and I said I'd put my reading glasses on when reading comments). The Wii is priced perfectly in my opinion. The PS3 less so.

@Martin: I feel sorry for you, it's clear to me you have been brainwashed by Sony by expressing yourself like an immature fanboy. By trying to get on your level, I can sort of see how "Wii" does indeed sound like "360".
As someone who owns a lot of games consoles, I am absolutely annoyed by people like you that have nothing better to do with their time than bash onto other people's head because you so strongly feel your system is better than others. To me, you're just an arrogant bully.
Now back to thee subject, it's great to see that the PS3 is finally taking off. An with great games ahoy, it can only go from strength to strength (hopefully).

I would argue that the Wii is overpriced as a console. For actual value for money, I'd say that PS3 offers the best value for the hardware, followed by the Xbox then Wii. Wii manages to charge £179 or thereabouts because of the demand for their console. Which is a pity, as I wouldn't pay more than £129 for a Wii, but would be compelled to put down up to £350 for a PS3 if I had a Full HDTV(I've seen it on a 720p tv and the graphics of Metal Gear Solid look awful) The only drawback at the moment being the old JVC (which has lived over 20 years!) that refuses to die.

@ darkspark88 - my word how close were you to the screen? I've played MGS4 on both a 32" 720p TV and my friends 37" 1080p, and I can honestly say I didn't notice the difference.
If I remember correctly the maximum output resolution for MGS4, like the overwhelming majority of console games, was 720p anyway, so there would be no difference between its appearance on a 720p screen and 1080p screen, assuming both are of a good quality. Maybe you need to invest in some spectacles...

@ - smc8788, okay, then it's probably down to the fact he wasn't using a HDMI cable. Would that be correct? I went though all the options to configure that PS3, and it really did look like a blurry mess after making sure we'd picked the right aspect ratio etc...

That may have been true several years back, but these days, multiplatforms look the same, or better on PS3, and the price of Xbox Live means that after 2 years ownership, and any cost advantage is lost. Don't try and tell us that Xbox Live offers things PSN does not, as there days there is little to differentiate between them, apart from the £50 a year Xbox charge of course.
By purposely ignoring the PS3, you are missing out on a fantastic selection of exclusive titles, better than anythign the Xbox can offer. Resistance2 and Killzone2 are vastly superior to Halo3 and Gears2, and even COD4, and I won't even go into the other stuff like Motorstorm PacificRift, MGS4 and the PSN titles, which are generally of much higher quality than the mostly rubbish content that lives on XBLA.
