I really hope they let you install games on the HDD, that would be very handy.
the biggest thing for me though is that i hope they allow private group chat.. currently private chat is only between 2 people.
It's annoying getting on a server with a few of your mates and having to listen to the yanks talking rubbish all the time... We've had a few arguments with them over stupid things.. Id rather just concentrate on playing the game :)

They already said they would allow HDD installs, but the disc will still need to be in the drive for anti-piracy verification.

you mentioned "new output resolutions" - i don't own a home console, or a HDTV, at that (just a big bad pc) but shouldn't the xbox 360 be able to output to PAL, NTSC (region depending), 720p and 1080i already?

I think MS mean PC screen type resolutions 1440 x 900, 1,280 x 800, 1,920 x 1,200 and so forth. Basically adding in black bars for non-16:9 displays that don't support 1:1 mapping, which would be cool.

"Although simply a slicker menu system that stands up to comparison with the PS3's XMB would be good".
Hugo - you really show no bias at all for the PS3 when it comes to the Xbox360 do you. Hmmmm
;^)
IMHO (being a taccy) I like the uncluttered & simple xbox dashboard (although I agree it could be improved & some functions are hidden a bit deep) but I don`t like the PS3 one at all - it looks great on my phone (SE G502) but not on the screen. Again IMHO.
There you go a bit of bias in the other direction :)

If preferring a demonstrably better system (XMB vs Dashboard, not PS3 vs Xbox 360 I hasten to add) makes me biased, then yes, I am. Calling the Dashboard uncluttered is ridiculous, the XMB is just *so* much cleaner it's ridiculous.

Correct me if I am wrong but is Trusted Reviews all about impartiality rather than opinionated commentary!
Mr Jobling, you really should know better. TR is rapidly becoming more like T3 :(

I use my pc monitor (Samsung 226CW) with my xbox (xbox VGA adaptor) so on the "new output resolutions" Id like them to sort it so the whole picture is on the screen. Currently almost half an inch is cut off the left of the screen :(
..still, looks ok though and doesnt stop me kicking butt on COD4 ;)

@Krog - reviews impartiality yes, opinion in news however is welcomed and encouraged.

As Gordon says, sprinkling a little bit of opinion is what differentiates our news. If you don't agree by all means state your concerns (that's why we have comments) and Gordon or I will happily explain our point(s) of view.

i love my xbox and would never replace it with one of those big black breeze blocks but i have to agree that the xbox dashboard is hidiously bad, especially when you have those flashing live and marketplace adverts popping up all over every screen, sometimes it looks like someone's myspace page.
they need to strip it down, keep adds in their place and stop the animated madness!!

No it isn't `ridiculous` it is *MY* opinion; us readers are allowed to have differing opinions you know. XMB is `sexier` like the iPhone is also `sexier` than most other phones. However I find the current Dashboard simple as pie to get around - eech blade has a defined function & then you just click on the bit you need once in the appropriate blade; my 5 year old drives it no problem. The iPhone is also rubbish.
;^) heh heh

Gordon & Hugo.
I will concede that 'sprinkling a little opinion' is fine for the most part, as long as it does not appear to blend into 'fanboyism' :)
Thanks for the sensible return comments.

I can't believe people didn't spot this sooner. The avatars are a big clue... anyone? Well for one the new Scene It game includes avatar support.... so.... the release date for Scene It is.... 28/11/2008.
So it has to be before then. Infact i would guess that it will be out the first week of november in time for Gears of War 2, i can just see MS trying to sell kids Gears related avatars.
