A number of months have passed since I dropped that Xbox 360 60GB bombshell on you guys, so you're probably wondering what's going on? Here's the latest...

After much dillying and dallying Microsoft has decided internally that it will announce the long overdue upgrade at E3 next month (the event runs from 15 - 17 July) with a release then scheduled for August (pre-10th says my source).

What has led to these holds up isn't clear since in pure storage terms there is now pence between the cost of 20GB and 60GB drives, but if I had to place a guess it would be on how the company plans to re-jig its existing line-up. Obviously the Arcade should become cheaper, but it will be interesting to see if it will eventually come with storage or whether the 60GB version will be a straight swap for the 20GB Premium only. Either way, however, with the PS3 making progress in recent months Microsoft knew it had to do something.

So that's your lot. Short and sweet. Now let's just wait for Microsoft to get official with this and remember: we told you so!

In related news The Xbox 360 is rumoured to be getting Wii-style avatars. If true, such an obvious nod to Nintendo would be a bitter pill for Microsoft to swallow but given the success of the Wii it may well be one worth taking.

Microsoft should have no problem swallowing that bitter pill. I think they coped with copying other companies long ago. ;)
