If there is one game responsible for more lost lunch breaks in the office than any other it has to be Guitar Hero III. In fact no other title comes close, we're all absolutely massive fans. You can imagine our excitement, then, upon hearing Activision announce that Guitar Hero IV, or World Tour as it is to be officially titled, will be coming in Fall 2008 - that's autumn to us Brits.

As one would hope, this isn't simply a rehash of Guitar Hero III with different songs, oh no. A new guitar controller, the addition of a microphone and a drum kit (including symbols) will make their début with World Tour. Okay, so Rock Band has done that already, but there's nothing wrong with a little friendly plagiarism - call it a cover if you want a more musical analogy.

New game modes are also being added including Music Studio, which allows you to create, edit and even share your own music and Battle of the Bands, an eight way online face-off. Offline up to four players can join together to progress through the campaign mode while single players can progress through using various instruments in the order of their choice.

PlayStation 2 and 3, Xbox 360 and a Wii version of World Tour will be available when the game is released. Doubtless the new instruments will make acquiring the entire set more expensive, but hopefully it will be worthwhile - especially if you happen to have a few friends and maybe a crate of beers around.
