Apple's recent launch of the iPhone SDK hinted that the device might have the power to play some impressive gaming titles, notably Spore among others, but Quake 3 Arena? Surely not!

Unlikely as it may sound, that is exactly what a video doing the rounds demonstrates. With some cunning use of the phone's accelerometer (tilt sensor) to move and turn and the touch screen to fire weapons, not to mention some frankly impressive graphics, the iPhone port certainly impresses.

Other than what is seen in the video, details are thin. Doubtless in good time we'll see some more details pop up nearer a full release of the game - a date of which is not given. Most likely this app is intended for release via Apple's App Store, as it seems unlikely a game such as Quake 3 Arena could be moved to the iPhone without use of the SDK.

Oh yes, one more thing. It's multiplayer!
