Doubtless many of you reading this have at one time or another noticed an Xbox Live player with a particularly insane Gamerscore and thought "surely that isn't possible?". Okay, so a fair few of these players are probably just lacking in any 'real' social pursuits, but a small proportion are clearly dirty cheaters and must be treated accordingly, right? Well, regardless what you think, Microsoft has acted and henceforth shall be punishing players found cheating in a rather conclusive manner.

Said cheaters will be having any ill-gotten Gamerpoints removed from their accounts, and to really ram the message home, they will be unable to gain them legitimately on games they have previously cheated on.

Further to this, offenders will also have a message emblazoned across their public profile page stating that adjustments have been made to their Gamerscore. A similar message will also be seen when using the Xbox Dashboard.

A sample account under the oh-so-hilarious name of CheaterMcCheat has been created to demonstrate how the branding will look. While we're sure that none of TrustedReviews' readership has anything to worry about, the knowledge that Microsoft is actively seeking out and dealing with the nefarious few should be taken in the spirit of fair play.
