How times change. When the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and 'Revolution' were first announced nearly two years ago it was Sony who got the biggest plaudits, Microsoft a close second and what attention Nintendo did garner was mainly shrugs and giggles. Fast forward to June 2007 and the entire picture has reversed (which, ironically, means the Xbox 360 stays the same).

If any more proof of this monumental reversal were required just take a look at the latest sales figures from Japanese market watcher Enterbrain. It quotes May sales of the Wii to have reached 251,794 units, by contrast the PS3 managed just 45,321 sales – a ratio of more than 5:1. This is a sales gap on the rise too, since Enterbrain says in April the comparative numbers were closer to 4:1.

Of course PS3 fanboys may point to the fact that Japan is a Nintendo stronghold, but the Japanese are also famous for their love of the PlayStation and PS2- it is normally Microsoft who gets the raw deal in this territory. Sadly, no May sales figures are yet available for either the US or European markets but, while I suspect the gap may be closer, they are likely to tell a similar story.

11m PS3s sold by the end of the year hey Sony? Got a 50 per cent price drop and some decent games planned have we?
