So the eve of the PlayStation 3 launch is upon us... ...and still no one seems to care.

Having reported yesterday that just 48 hours before release every major online site still has PS3 stock little seems to have changed. Amazon, Play.com, Dabs.com, Game and more all report unsold units and dispatch available 'within 48 hours'. So much for Sony's self claimed supply shortages.

Tech Digest also has an amusing report that by 11.45am yesterday morning a grand total of TWO customers had turned up to queue for Virgin Megastore's midnight unveiling tonight on Oxford Street. By 5pm that number has swelled to three customers. Email me if you have any updates.

On the upside, we can report from TR HQ that if you are prepared to stump up the massive £425 asking price (don't forget you'll need games on top of that) and forgive Sony all its sins over the last 18 months then the PS3 itself is rather a stunning piece of kit. Sure it doesn't have any decent launch titles (at least exclusive ones) but it is the cheapest way of garnering yourself a Blu-ray player and lives up to its billing as a multimedia centre.

Intrigued? Be sure to check out our launch date review tomorrow!

Update: Didn't turn up last night? You missed out on Virgin's surprise free gifts of a 46in Sony Bravia HDTV and free taxi home for all PS3 buyers. Gutted? Me too... I could've just ebayed the PS3!
