I’ll be heading over to X06 in Barcelona next week when I expect to hear all manner of Xbox 360 announcements, but a few gems have fallen loose ahead of the big event.

The big news is that the next gen console will receive a software update this autumn which will enable it to output games and movie content to a full 1080p. HDMI output still remains off the map, but the potential for (wealthy?) owners to upscale to compatible HD TVs is mouth watering to say the least.

Quite when Microsoft will offer native 1080p titles on the other hand is far less clear, but that could still be some way off considering that 1080p native resolution televisions currently make up only a tiny proportion of the whole market.

Big news number two is that the Xbox 360’s eagerly anticipated HD DVD add-on drive will begin shipping to Japan on 17 November and carry the remarkably reasonable RRP of 19,800 yen (roughly £89). Of course we can expect a price hike and a delay on that date in the UK, but it still bodes extremely well for Santa Season.

Finally, Microsoft has announced its first ‘Classics’ range for the 360 with early titles including Condemned, Kameo: Elements of Power, King Kong and Perfect Dark Zero set for re-release at £24.99. Xbox 360 golden oldies already… any chance this might be a further dig at the PlayStation 3’s further delays?

Surely not ;)
