If there is one thing I positively cannot stand about fashion trends at the moment is the current obsession with pink. Seen everywhere from the uncouth Ben Sherman shirt wearers to the toffs in their prerequisite sporting occasion gear of cream jacket, pink shirt and blue trousers it drives me absolutely mad. Well, Sony’s proved it is sheep not shepherd.

Having previously produced white editions of the PSOne and PSP in a bid to capitalise on the iPod phenomenon it seems Sony will do just about anything to chase a fad.

“The Pink PlayStation 2 is funky, fresh, and fashionable, and will further broaden the console’s continuing popularity and relevance with a fun new twist”, said the no doubt cream jacketed, pink shirted and blue trousered Dan Hill, the PS2’s European Brand Manager.

Sony isn’t approaching this in half hearted manner either. Not only are the console and the dual shock controllers in pink, as the eagle eyed amongst you may have spotted, so is the Memory Card (8MB).

The new PPS2, as I’m dubbing it, will launch on 1 November with an RRP of £129.99 and is rather aptly bundled with SingStar Pop. I hear Sony’s in-house production of ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’ didn’t quite make it in time…
