After the recent news that Resident Evil 4 is coming to PCs it would appear that similar cheers are in order flowing Microsoft’s announcement that Halo 2 will be traipsing the same journey. This is Willy G’s boys though, and there is always a but

In this case it is a massive but too, a gargantuan but, a but that should never – for the love of God – be seen in cycling shorts. Halo 2 will be Windows Vista only.

Yes, you heard that right loyal readers, the follow up to the game that Microsoft so famously took away from us PC owners to flog the original Xbox will now be used to flog its next generation OS. Want to hear Microsoft’s official justification for this? I bet you do…

As Bungie Studios and Microsoft are dedicated to delivering a top quality translation of Halo 2 for the PC, their efforts require the use of the best available technological platform for Windows games. Windows Vista will help bring clarity to our customers and help them get more out of their personal computing experience, allowing them to focus on what matters most to them.

“What Matter’s Most”?! What matters most, you swindling bunch of jokers is NOT making the financially stretched people of this world splash out more money on a new OS in its early weeks of release (the worst time to buy) and then format their perfectly working computers (a daunting task to many) which are already vastly superior to the Xbox console Halo 2 was released on!

Vista will be a performance drag on any system, not a jetpack and aren’t adjustable detail, resolution and anti-aliasing settings the less capitalistically obscene way to alter playability on variable systems? Clearly what both companies are trying to tell us is that running a Windows XP operating system so heavily cripples your computer that not even a machine equipped with an AMD Athlon X2 processor and ATI Radeon X1900 graphics card can make a decent fist of running a title released on a five year old gaming console…

Need to build up any more aggression? Here’s Bungie’s argument:

The game WILL be for Windows Vista, as in, not for Windows XP, so you have a while to get used to that and complain to me about what a jerk I am to Windows 3.1 users.

As Scrappy Doo so famously shouts: “LET ME AT ‘EM! LET ME AT ‘EM!”
