Roll Up, Roll Up!

Finally, finally, finally, it’s out. What a bleeding hassle that was. It has been available for a year in Japan, over six months in the US and an eternity via UK importer Lik Sang (where Riyad procured his a lifetime ago). All the while we Brits sat patiently (as we are prone to do) through delay after delay.

That doesn’t matter now though. Europe has its baby and it is love at first sight. As of midnight flocks – herds, even – of eager gamers crammed into stores with specially extended opening times to get their piece of the action. Was it worth the wait? Our extended and specially updated review to mark the occasion should leave you in absolutely no doubt…

Over 30 games will be available from launch, including highlights such as Ridge Racer, Lumines and WipEout Pure. A limited range of UMD movies have also debuted.

Of course, the first thing you will want to do when you get your PSP home is update it to firmware version 2.0 which adds full web browser functionality, AAC and WAV music support, wallpaper, Tiff, Gif and BMP compatibility, WPA security and on and on. Naturally, however, while it has been out for ages in Japan and a few weeks with the Burger Munchers, there’s no sign of it for England or Europe.

No matter, we’ve overcome the main wait and besides, it’ll take a good few months for owners to notice anything other than the PSP’s incredible games anyway, and I mean anything: like your job, the mortgage, the wife, the dog…
