Well, according to the review, the differences are:
The 42PFL7404 has no Ethernet Port.
The 42PFL7404 has no Ambilight functionality.
The 42PFL7404 has hidden Speakers (that don't perform quite as well as the speaker bar on the 42PFL8404).

John Archer -I see you reviewed the sony 46W5500 as well.I'm planning on getting either the 47" 7404 or the 46W5500.You gave them both 9 out 10. Judging both sets on sd image and ability to handle fast action what would be best .The Price is not a issue as they are about the same. Thanx

Considering they have the same panel too... I wonder what is actually different between the 42PFL7404 and the 42PFL8404?!
