It was inevitably only ever a matter of which broadcaster would be next to join Sky, showing 3D TV. The answer: Channel 4, which will be showing a selection of 3D programmes this autumn.

In true typical, gimmicky, 3D style, the line-up of content includes a clip show entitled "The Greatest Ever 3D Moments" - or at least, the greatest ones recorded in 3D - and "Derren Brown's 3D Magic Spectacular." Then again, ‘rare footage' of the Queen's 1953 coronation in 3D might be worth a watch. A mix of films will also be shown in 3D.

Channel 4 will be using ColorCode, which apparently looks fairly normal to the naked eye, but also gives a 3D effect when viewed with the required glasses. These will be distributed in Sainsbury's stores, with which Channel 4 is partnering.

Channel 4 also says it hopes to get advertisers involved, showing ads in 3D. Whether that will add or detract from the experience we'll have to wait and see.

I can just see all the different channels using different 3D systems, and us having 14 pairs of glasses to sift through every time we change channel.
