Does this mean they're moving from WMV to Flash video? If so, am disappointed.

Yay - Teachers! :)

@drdark I would guess that the download programs will still be WMV, and the in browser ones FLV, exactly the same as iplayer.

Hope one of their early self-made films (can't remember if they called them FilmFour or not then) called Preying Mantis is included. Cherie Lunghi and Jonathan Pryce were excellent. Wish they'd dust it off and release it on DVD.

I hope they release a Mac 4oD client so I can watch their back catalogue on my Mac. At the moment I think it's just 30 day catchup that's in flash. And I also hope they put their old FilmFour stuff up too. Can't wait for July - Monkey Island gets re-released and now this.

great news. 4od was already great.

@Pbryanw
just stick on win7 rc1. free and awesome.

Whilst its great to have the back catalogue available, if I read the press release correctly it seems that this is the end downloads. The only way to download will be to rent or buy through iTunes. Real shame as I primarily watch off-line on my train commute. Looks like its a BBC only diet for me now.

@ravmania - actually from reading the TR news item again, and having received an e-mail from 4oD today saying:

"From around the end of June you'll also be able to watch all our archive programmes on channel4.com. Which means all your favourites will be in one place and available for free."

It seems, all their back archive will be free online, hopefully in flash, which as ShaunB points out, and the e-mail I got mentions, means the end of their 4oD offline service.

Spaced!!!

comment Ed said on 10th June 2009

Good call, Rob. Too long since I've watched Spaced.

Also, strikes me it is very important how Channel 4 makes its money because if it fails to make any the service will be stopped.

Good news, although for me the end of 4OD downloads is unfortunate - during peak hours my connection is terrible for streaming video, and it would be far more convenient to have the option of downloading.
