What is helpful is a fair and free distribution platform, not the overpriced monopoly that is Sky.

FreeSat is growing quite quickly, it needs a few more HD channels to really make people switch but they should come in time. Is this meant to supplement freesat as most of the equipment has an ethernet port?

Would it work in conjunction with freeview players with ethernet too?

There are precious few bodies in dear ole' UK that I am proud of (our Parliament not being one of them at the mo.) but the BBC has shown great leadership in iPlayer and revitalising Freeview /Freesat with its content and delivery developments.

Personally, I feel able to trust the BBC our behalf. Sky see (overdue) competition on the horizon and must be worried, or they would not create such trivial dust and froth.

What I will need by the end of this year is a iplayer device to connect to my TV, HD freeview tuner and a HD freeview capable PVR, since HD freeview is coming to the Granada region around November / December. Companies (Samsung ideally as their kit is normally good and looks stunning) listen up and give me a wi fi iplayer, HD freeview tuner/PVR capable box thingy. (PVR not essential but nice).

Anyone else want something like this?

Not a shock that a near-monopoly is complaining about a little competition.

iPlayer is fantastic, let's hope bbc is free to continue innovating.

However, I disappointingly recently learnt of the BBC's cowardice/bias at a seminar on heritage. One speaker, a former award wining BBC producer, now a Professor, alleged that the BBC, in response to studies of viewer focus groups which found that the majority white audience (licence fee payers) could not hack the full truth of UK's involvement in the slave trade and racism, watered down its programming for the bi-centinary of the abolition of slavery and coincidently the 30th anniversary of the Commission for Racial Equality.

This was reminiscent of what happened in the USA in the late 1970s when Roots (see Wikipedia) was made. When the Network executives saw the programmes they wanted them scrapped. However to avoid the inevitable accusations they figured if they showed the entire mini-series on consecutive nights at a suitably safe time they might get away with it. Alas the truth won and the rest is as they say is history. See it folks (on DVD), its great. After all they made a follow on series!!!! Oh, won awards as wells.
