As has become tradition in recent years, LG kicked off CES 2009 with the opening press conference of the show. And the undoubted highlight of the presentation was the official line on LG's LHX HDTV, a very slim, LED backlit, 240Hz (200Hz PAL) TV with the added bonus of Wireless HD technology integrated in there, too. LG has, to use an Anglo-Saxon phrase, given it the beans!

A 55in model, the LHX will naturally sport a Full HD 1080p resolution with this information being streamed wirelessly and uncompressed from a media box. Adding to the appeal is the aforementioned LED backlighting, with the LHX (and other LED models) utilising 240 local dimming zones to adjust the backlight on the fly. This backlighting tech allows for a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 and boosts colour vibrancy and gradation, bringing with it Deep Colour support.

Other features include four HDMI ports (all 1.3 spec) while the TV itself is a ridiculously thin one inch at its thickest point. Other similar models include the LH90 (available in 42, 47 and 55 inch sizes), which is a self contained LED TV without the media box, and the LH85, a non-LED LCD TV that has the Wireless HD media box but also lacks 240Hz processing, settling for just 120Hz instead. This will be available in 47 and 55in varieties and the LH55 drops the wireless box, but brings back 240Hz processing to 37, 42, 47 and 55in sizes.

LG is also demoing 3D TVs at the show, something we'll be taking a closer look at when the show floor opens tomorrow.
