Sky detailed its plans to allow non Sky-subscribers access to its online content, via the Sky Player, already. That service is now live, so anyone unwilling to shell out for a TV subscription but wanting to get hold of Sky's undeniably large and debatably awesome library of content online can do so.

Price wise Sky Online subscriptions kick of with the Entertainment Pack at £15 per month. This package offers the Disney Channel, British Eurosport, National Geographic Channel, Sky News and Sky Sports News with MTV One, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr to be added later.

Up one step is the entertainment pack plus either Sky Sports 1 or Sky Sports 2 and Sky Sports 3 for £26 per month and above that £34 per month nets Sky sports 1, 2 and 3, Sky Sports Xtra as well as Sports On Demand.

Until the end of January these packages are all available at discounted rates of £7.50, £22 and £30. Personally I think the base package is pretty rubbish, hence the half price trial, but anyone wanting Sky Sports content without Sky TV might find the other packages more tempting.

Hopefully more options offering the channel we all want to watch - Sky One - will be made available at some point. Of course Sky syndicates most of that content from the US so getting distribution licences is more difficult. and that's assuming such an offering isn't labelled anti-competitive, too.

Rubbish. I want decent online PAYG services. I do not watch enough films/sport to justify £408 a year.

Maybe a fiver for a premiership/international footie game. ... more
