After being revealed last year, news on the joint 'Kangaroo' project between the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV has been pretty much non-existent to the extent I had all but assumed it was left dead in the water. That seems not to be the case, though, as the scheme is now apparently scheduled for launch in March next year, with trials starting next month.

The scheme's holding company, Vodco, confirmed to Media Week that Kangaroo will enter Alpha testing next month. This initial launch will be following the publishing of a preliminary review of the service by the Competition Commission, to be published on the 25th of November, which is investigating fears the service might prove 'too powerful.'

All going well for Kangaroo, the service would enter a Beta stage in February next year, before finally launching in March after the Competition Commission publishes its full findings. Although what will happen if the Commission decides work on Kangaroo isn't allowed to go ahead is unclear.
