Sky and Virgin Media have been fighting it out in the High Courts recently, but no longer because the two parties have managed to reach an agreement over channel arrangements, and dropped their respective action against each other. What that means for us, the TV viewing public, is that a selection of Sky channels will, once again, be available on Virgin's cable TV service and a few of Virgin's on Sky.

Sky's channels will return to Virgin Media on the 13th of November, while Virgin's will continue to be broadcast on Sky's network.

The full details of the channel agreement sit as follows:

  • Sky3, Sky News and Sky Sports News will join Virgin Media's M TV package and therefore be available to all digital TV subscribers.
  • Sky1 and Sky2 will join Virgin Media's L TV package and therefore be available to both L and XL TV subscribers.
  • Sky Arts 1, Sky Arts 2, Sky Real Lives and Sky Real Lives 2 will join Virgin Media's XL TV package.
  • Living, Living 2, Bravo, Bravo 2, Virgin 1 and Challenge will be available to subscribers of Sky's Variety channel pack.
  • Trouble will be available to subscribers to Sky's Children's pack.
Call me controversial if you will, but I think Virgin definitely got the better end of this deal. The only channel there I'd be particularly interested in watching is Sky1 for all the US TV goodness it offers. SkyHD would be doubly preferable, but I don't see that ever being available off Sky.

More channels for any Sky or Virgin Media for the same money can't be sniffed at, though.

I'm on the M package so no Sky 1 for me :( But it's good to see Sky and Virgin patching things up. At least it should put an end to those people who said they would leave... more
