As if the long, long wait from having seen Sony's XEL-1 OLED TV to a UK release wasn't painful enough, Sony Japan has shown off yet another model that will probably never make its way over here - at least it's not another 27 OLED, though. This one is arguably more interesting, as it sees Sony taking the XEL-1 concept, removing the power cable and adding a battery to create a wireless OLED TV.

Aside form the newly added, and unquoted, battery life stat, specs elsewhere are should be exactly the same as the XEL-1. For the unaware that means a 960 x 540 resolution, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio (a believable claim when actually seen) and an 11in diagonal size.

The design is a little different from the XEL-1, as the tuner has been moved form below to behind the screen, resulting in a slightly less stylish design, but one that seems more practical. Sony showed of a few screens posing on table tops and mounted to adjustable arms - although what kind of house would sport the latter I don't know.

As there's no mention of any release it's hardly surprising that pricing isn't talked about either. Still, it's an interesting idea.

I don't know why they don't put the tuner in the base. Why have it 'on' the screen at all?
