So far as I know (still waiting for PR folks to get back to me with more details) local dimming is indeed in the offering.
A Kuro will still look better I'd imagine.

Here they come finally! I want to buy my first flat panel TV but cannot decide which one yet! I'm hesitating between the Pioneer PDP-LX5090, the Sony KDL-55X4500 & the newcomer Panasonic 58"...
Prices & review will certainly help to choose...
If anybody has an advice... I'm using a Mediacenter, a PS3, will watch Blu-Rays & DVDs as well as standard definition TV (but scaled and processed by the Mediacenter). I don't want to start a new post with Plasma against LCD (I think both are great in their own areas) but I just want to make sure not to spend my money in the wrong screen (or technology) according to my personal needs (usage)...

Tasty! Sounds like the Bravia X4500-series, at least in 46 and 55in flavours, are not only "LED backlit" but surely support local dimming ie Dolby Contrast in order to hit 1.1 MILLION to 1 contrast ratio.
Can't wait to check that out down the local Dixons to see if it dares rival a Kuro :)
