LG 1,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio 47LG90 Revealed

We already know that Samsung has a million to one contrast ratio TV planned for release sometime soon, but it turns out there's more than one guest at that party. While not exactly official, details of LG's own LED-backlit TV have surfaced via a product spec sheet - albeit a Canadian one.

• 47in, 1,920 x 1,080 panel
• 120Hz processing (100Hz in any forthcoming UK model)
• three HDMI 1.3 ports, two Component inputs, one S-Video in and a D-Sub connector
• 24fps playback
• USB port for JPEG and MP3 playback

As well as these important features, the LG can also dynamic adjust its screen setting based on ambient conditions and sits in a 5in thick casing. Sure that's not as thin as many rival LCD sets, but the claimed contrast ratios sported by the LG will doubtless make up for that.

Style wise there's a surprising amount of similarity between the LG and Samsung sets, both offering a small splash of colour around the bezel - although the Samsung has a red option too. Price wise Samsung may have the edge, though, as in the US the 47LG90 carries an MSRP of $3,599 (~£1,800) versus the 50in Samsung equivalent's £1,450-odd prospective tag. We'll have to wait and see what actual UK pricing is like, though.
