While it may be one of the lesser known manufacturers we've always been a fan of Lava since it first dazzled us with its ingenious VESA wall mounts nearly two years ago. Well it's at it again...

This time around the Swedish company is looking to exploit a much neglected area of the audiovisual market: ultra portable TVs, and it certainly looks to have the products to do it in the 'LD-15DVD' and 'LD-19DVD' (below).

Far more than the 15in (1024 x 768) and 19in (1440 x 900) HD Ready screens are their heart, both models come packing virtually every kind of treat you could hope for when caravanning (you odd people), sailing, etc. For a start there are analogue and digital (DVB-T) TV tuners backed up by integrated DVD players with CD playback but then things get rather funky...

Stepping up from the usual, the pair also feature FM tuners to provide you with all your favourite radio stations, plus USB ports and an SD/MS/MMC compatible card reader enabling you to stream pictures, MP3s and even Mpeg2 and Mpeg4 video content. Who needs a PMP?

Still not finished, there are also a bunch of thoughtful features designed specifically for the portable market. Most notable is the ability to resume DVDs even when the TV is switched off, but the inclusion of VESA mounting points and the flexibility to operate on both 230V and 12V currents are useful too. At 5.5Kg and 7.5Kg respectively, neither set is going to break any backs either.

As you might expect given all this there is a premium on the price tags, but with a 20 per cent off July promotional launch meaning the LD-15DVD retails for £319.99 and the LD-19DVD for £359.99 they certainly aren't insurmountable.

First our homes and now our electronics? Clearly the Swedes are thinking world domination...
