Sony's W4000-series launched recently and gave the impression it should be pretty good - unusually for Sony TVs of late. Now it's the turn of the 'S' line of TVs (last seen by us in the form of the 46in Bravia KDL-S46S2010) to see an upgrade, with the S4000-series.

Kicking off with the vital statistics then, we see four sets. The top-end, 40in model boasts a 1,920 x 1080 panel while the 37in, 32in and 26in sets sport lesser, 'HD Ready' screens. The smaller TVs get image processing courtesy of the Bravia Engine, with the newer Bravia Engine 2 making its way into the 40in-er as does 24p playback. All four get a triplet of HDMI ports, integrated DVB-T (digital terrestrial) tuners and 33,000:1 dynamic contrast ratios.

The range is also apparently a showcase of Sony's "draw the LINE" design concept, which apparently "enhances the total TV viewing experience without distracting from what's on the screen". Such claims will have to be seen to be believed, but Philips' Aurea TVs definitely proved that what you do around the panel can have just as striking an effect on the viewing experience as what you to with the image itself - although don't expect Sony so have achieved anything so groundbreaking as Ambilight here.

Pricing and release dates conform to typical Sony standards, which is to say there are none.
