I'm gonna suggest this move is an attempt to compete with the £150 offering from Freesat HD, despite the fact that the Sky version will cost you a £120 a year (£10 pcm) in Sky HD fees, on top of a similar amount for their minimum subscription package.
I'm still thinking Freeset myself

I was thinking Freesat, but with the PVR not yet out, the cost likely to be £250+, I'd rather go SkyHD for the content - like footie next season.

What's the standalone cost? I'm extremely curious about using a Sky HD box with Freesat from Sky. The amount of money that they try and peddle for awful TV simply doesn't justify paying for any form of subscription. The base service is excellent though.

I agree with the Pope - this is Sky's effort to remain competitive in a market that now has a promising young upstart in the form of FreeSat.
Will be interesting to see how the FreeSat service takes shape over the coming few months.
I'm not ruling out a new Sky HD box - but I think this is a move to try to grow their vulnerable base of HD subscribers before FreeSat gets much of a foothold in the market.
Go FreeSat go!

Offer still not appearing on the Sky Website... have you jumped the gun, TR? This was previously rumoured to become available in July, with the new EPG coming in the Autumn. Share some more detail with us!

Having had SkyHD for nearly 8 months now, I am pleased with the service I get. The ever expanding HD channels that are being launched is worth having to pay for. The update to the EPG will be welcomed as its rather aged and could be set up far better.

When I move house about 8 months ago I went from Virgins so called HD box to SKY HD. Managed to get the box and installation on a special deal of £99 IMHO £99 well spent. The only disadvantage over Virgin is only having 2 tuners instead of 3. Gone from 1 HD half channel to 19 HD channels :-).
Shame I don't have ITV though I would love to watch the F1 in HD.

Sounds better then Virgin's measly one channel's worth of HD and I've heard the Sky+ box is more responsive then Virgin's V+ box. I'd probably consider it if I hadn't just got a new deal with Virgin.
