Sony's W4000-series of LCD TVs have managed to right many of the wrongs inflicted by their predecessors - the KDL-40W4000 being a notable example. Now the V4000-series has been refreshed, and on paper it looks equally set to impress us.

A (dynamic) contrast ratio of 33,000:1 is boasted, and all of the 40in, 46in and 52in sets sport 1,920 x 1,080 panels. Bravia Engine 2 video processing is features, which our experience tells us should provide decent results with both HD and SD content - although as ever the former is to be preferred. 24p playback is also supported, allowing compatible Blu-ray discs to be played in their native format.

Connectivity-wise all three TVs offer a trio of HDMI ports, and while not explicitly stated, it's probably safe to assume the usual array of Component, Scart and composite inputs are also available. A USB port also allows playback of images directly from flash-memory devices.

As typical of Sony, so pricing or release dates are available as yet so we can but guess. Given the stiff competition in the market, we can but hope Sony won't be charging too hefty a premium.
