Only a few days after Samsung outed its intention to have OLED TVs by 2009 or 2010 and LG has spilled the beans on its plans for both the next generation of its LCD sets and, better yet, on its schedule for having OLED TVs off the production line. According to DigiTimes, this will mean that LG should have no problems keeping up with its rival companies.

LCDs first; while 8G production lines are, says DigiTimes, traditionally reserved for 50in panels and above, LG says growing flexibility means there is the potential to bring that all the way down to 32in. On that note, 57in, 52in, 47in and 32in panel sizes are planned to be produced by the new 8G fabrication plant. Volume production of these 8G TVs is expected to begin in March 2009, supposedly well ahead of rival Taiwanese manufacturers.

More interesting, though, is the suggestion by LG that it will have a 32in OLED TV ready for 2011 - in volume production no less! While that is a bit later than Samsung and Sony are forecasting, those two companies haven't explicitly said when their sets will hit mass production and delays are always possible.

If LG is lucky, it may not be all that far behind its rivals after all. Who knows, it may even be able to get ahead of that schedule. Either way, having another guest RSVP to the OLED party is good news for us consumers - the more combatants in the inevitable price war the better.
