Sharp's AQUOS range of budget LCD TVs impressed us at the beginning of last year, specifically the LC-32GD8E. The time has now come for a new range of products to take up that mantle under the guise of the AQUOS D44E series - not pictured below despite what you might assume.

The LC-26D44E, LC-32D44E and LC-37D44E offer (as the names suggest) 26in, 32in and 37in panels respectively. All three pack an HD-ready, 1,366 x 768 resolution and 10,000:1 contrast ratios - almost certainly a dynamic figure.

Image processing is set to be improved and there is an ambient light sensor which will tweak screen settings, such as brightness, automatically to try and offer a better picture. Sharp is also introducing a new freeze-frame option which will, for want of a better word, 'freeze' the TV's display temporarily, although unlike pausing on Sky+, the scene will not continue from that point when you resume.

As expected the usual array of connections are featured, including SCART, Component and HDMI, plus there's a DVB-T tuner built-in with the usual EPG access. In terms of pricing, the 26in and 32in models will set buyers back £499 and £599, respectively, and both should hit the stores towards the end of March. The 37in set will arrive in June for a currently undisclosed price.
