Samsung Launches SyncMaster 820DXn 82in TV

We've seen some crazy TVs in our time, but the latest from Samsung may well take the biscuit. Not only does the Samsung SyncMaster 820DXn boast an 82in LCD panel, but the casing also manages to pack in a non-too-shabbily specced PC as well.

TV-wise there's the expected Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, a 5,000:1 (dynamic) contrast ratio and Samsung's DNIe PRO video processing. Supposedly the panel is specifically designed to keep cool, thus prolonging its lifespan - an important aspect given the asking price, on which more in a second.

On the PC front the specs are a bit lax by today's quad-core standards but given the likely use of the 820DXn, complaints are unlikely to be forthcoming. A 1.8GHz AMD X2 3400+ processor, 512GB or DDR2 RAM and 4GB of flash hard drive space make up the core specs. Windows XP is the chosen operating system, which is understandable seeing as Vista would barely run on such a system.

The real kicker for Samsung's magnum opus of a TV, though, is the price. At $76,999 (a touch under £39k) the SyncMaster 820DXn is unlikely to make its way into any but the richest of persons' living rooms. Of course, if you're looking to spend that kind of money you'd probably consider saving up the extra £8k or so for a 103in Panasonic TH-103PF9, but nonetheless, we can't help but be rather impressed by Samsung's offering.
