For those of us who don’t quite have the budget for Samsung’s BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player (why would you want it, it's awful? - ed.), and a supporting sound system, but need something more than, say, the Toshiba SD 370E to accompany your HD-TV. Or if you want to add some life to your DVD collection and perhaps avoid picking a side in the ongoing Blu-ray versus HD DVD format war, then the frankly awesome-looking HT-TXQ120 home cinema kit from Samsung may be for you. Supporting full 1080p upscaling as well as MP3, WMA, JPEG and DivX playback from a USB drive and sporting a 1000W 5.1 channel surround-sound setup the HT-TXQ120 doesn’t skimp on features either. Of course at around £700 all in you would expect no less from this gorgeous setup.

Also announced today is the, more reasonably priced, HT-X200R and we can’t deny that the glossy piano-black casing of the DVD player and 2.1 sound-system combo does look great. On a more practical level the HT-X200 supports HDMI output and can upscale to 1080i, play MP3, WMA, JPEG and DivX files from a USB memory stick just like it’s bigger, more expensive brother, and is available now for a little under £300. Going a model up, the HD- X250R comes with 5.1 surround-sound and adds support for wireless speakers but comes with a corresponding increase in price to around £350. Both kits are available to buy now from your favourite (r)e-tailer.
