You may recall our report that Blu-Ray movie sales were considerably up on those of HD DVD for Q1 of this year. Well it turns out that when it comes to selling players the shoe is on the other foot, (how about you try and come up with witty analogies all day). Although these statistics are published by the North American HD DVD Promotional Group, who has obvious motive to tout its product as the best, the data does seem to be collated from various independent sources such as the NDP Group.

HD DVD hardware sales for Q2 are apparently up by 37 percent on the first quarter of this year, while in the same period Blu-Ray player sales apparently took a 27 percent decline. No mention is made, though, of whether or Sony’s Blu-Ray fitted Playstation 3 is included in those figures, but being as it is not, primarily, a Blu-Ray player and that these statistics are intended to big-up HD DVD, it would be no surprise if they weren’t.

Of course when you can buy an HD DVD player for almost half the price of a Blu-Ray equivalent, it isn’t hard to see why these figures have arisen. Its getting to the stage now that I don't care who wins this format war, as long as someone does. Unfortunately it seems likely to rage for a while longer yet.
