There was a time when Samsung didn't dominant every field it was in, I'm sure about it – though the memory is fading fast...

Just three days after Sammy announces its latest flagship PAVV line-up (complete with 17,000:1 contrast ratios and 1080p panels all round) it has gone one better with a monstrous 70 incher which the company says will be the world's largest commercially available LCD TV (Panasonic's 103in TH-103PF9 is the biggest plasma).

Coming with such a rep however puts pressure on the rest of the set to deliver, but – predictably – does it ever! With Local Dimming LED backlighting the 'LN70F91BD' is quoted as having a mind numbing 500,000:1 contrast ratio... dislike the contrast ratio measurement as much as you want but this remains something a bit special. Furthermore, Sammy says the LED backlight technology reduces power consumption by up to 50 per cent and LED scanning eliminates the flicker and ghosting problems associated with large screen LCDs.

Naturally enough the LN70F91BD also sports a Full HD 1080p native panel, 120Hz refresh and there's ample space for its three HDMI 1.3 ports while – rather mysteriously – a single USB2.0 port also makes an appearance but without any explanation as to what it's for?

As with all Samsung goods this behemoth will debut in Korea first and will appear sometime in closer to Christmas with a whopping 59,000,000 won (£32,000) price tag prompting a gross feeling of inadequacy in all of us. Now Sammy please play nice with the other manufacturers and let someone else have a try...
