It's turning out to be a very fruitful week (Apple: geddit? Sorry). Not only is the iPhone going to support third party apps, but DRM-free iTunes Plus tracks are finally here though they're dogged with controversy and now we've news on Apple TV.

Marketed as 'iTunes for your living room' Apple TV has actually had a rather innocuous start to life so Steve J has tried to do something about it – just not the things we wanted...

What we wanted were the ability to stream AVIs and High Definition video content. What we've got is the option of a larger hard drive and YouTube compatibility. The former sees a new premium version of Apple TV swap out the original 40GB HDD in favour of a 160GBer, while a software update will see the addition of the latter sometime in mid-June.

Given the lack of HD support it is debatable whether a 160GB HDD is really that necessary and while watching home videos of people hurting one another with 'amusing pranks' (seemingly the main point of YouTube) isn't altogether worthless the quality isn't going to be great on your 60/50/47/42/37/32/27/24/19in television...

160GB Apple TVs will start shipping immediately in the US for $399, no word yet on the UK.

Apple TV: it was hmmmmn, now it's meh.
