It seems impossible to keep Pioneer out the headlines this last week. First it launched the world's first sub $300 Blu-ray drive, then followed that up with its long awaited (and frankly jaw-dropping) 8th Generation plasmas, so it is apt the company follows up these blockbusters with yet another High Definition offering.

The 'BDP-LX70' is the company's second entry into the Blu-ray player market as it looks to build upon the solid showing of the HD1. Key features this time around are support for 1080p output at 24Hz (shot for shot cinema identical), Dolby TrueHD lossless audio and DLNA compatibility meaning the LX70 can be hooked up to a home network where it will playback Mpeg2, WMV, MP3 and Jpeg formats. Sadly DivX/Xvid isn't on the menu.

Elsewhere DVDs in both PAL and NTSC can be used in the machine along with audio CDs while its implementation of HDMI control enables Pioneer TV owners (that lucky breed) to operates both devices using a single remote.

Question marks over the LX70 are whether it will utilise HDMI 1.3 and how much it will cost. With a June release date however, we won't have to wait long to find out...
