I have no problem with technology getting smaller and smaller (though I have lost a microSD card somewhere in my bedroom) and in general I have no problem with displays getting bigger and bigger… apart from when it means I need a bigger flat.

Safely stretching this latter category to bursting point are the P55XTS55 and P65XHA51 which come in at an incredible 55 and 63 inches respectively and feature the company’s latest AVM II video processing technology and improved brightness.

AVM II is Fujitsu’s own version of the picture sharpening and upscaling wizardry we see from every HD TV manufacturer and it appears good to its word since both models now feature superb 1800:1 contrast ratios and impressive 900 cd/m2 brightness levels.
Not quite so good is the fact that, despite their size, the two models feature 1366 x 768 1080i panels when it would’ve been wonderful to see them go down the 1080p route so impressively navigated by Toshiba’s 42WLT66.

That said, this is just a minor blip on the radar compared to an even more glaring omission: one just HDMI input. Yep, while it might not have been a killer omission when Ed reviewed the equally monstrous 63in P63XHA40 back in May this is August now and the HD TV world moves fast. In fact Tosh’s new REGZA’s were recently announced to have three!

You will get the usual Scart, Component et al alternatives but whether this makes either model worthy of their £5,495 and £8,995 RRPs is dubious to say the least. This double act is shaking shop shelves immediately but for once I’m thinking more brains, less brawn…
