Having made possibly the most tantalisingly affordable 1080p native resolution HD TV of the year so far with the 42WLT66 Toshiba has once again pulled out all the stops with its latest additions to the REGZA range.

Available in three sizes – 32, 37, 42in - the new WLT68 series (which Riyad touched upon in his Toshiba 2006 Showcase back in April) continues the fine tradition of the WLT66’s 100Hz image processing but makes headlines as the first sets to feature three HDMI inputs.

This is an important development, because, unlike single or dual port models, users can plug all their HD equipment – set top box, games console and HD DVD/Blu-ray player – into the back without having to manually swap leads.

The 32, 37 and 42 inchers all have 1366 x 768 native resolutions so 1080i will be their bag. 500 cd/m2 brightness ratios are also standard all round while the smaller pair actually have slightly higher contrast ratios (1000:1) than their screen stealing big brother (800:1).

All models sport integrated digital tuners giving customers instant access to over 30 Freeview channel including Film 4, E4, Sky News & Sports, BBC 24 and Sky Three. Nicam stereo sound and SRS WOW are all supported across the range and the trio of HDMI ports hasn’t meant sacrifices elsewhere with Component, S-Video and PC inputs along with two SCART ports. An optional subwoofer can also be purchased and installed invisibly in the WLT68’s VESA mounts (above right) if you have no desire to stick it on the wall.

Unfortunately at this stage we don’t have any info on release dates or pricing, but I’ll be keeping a close eye out for you since the 42WLT66 made such as splash. As has my drool which has just hit the floor…
