JVC Markets 120Hz LCD TVs

If you thought the current obsession in the LCD TV world was response time then you’d be right, but someone didn’t tell JVC that…

Instead the 37in LT-37X987 and 32in LT-32X987 both take the unusual (and as far as I know, unprecedented) step of doubling the industry’s default 60Hz refresh rate to 120Hz. The reasoning behind this, to quote JVC is:

“[To use] this faster refresh rate to insert an interpolated image, displaying two frames – the original plus the new interpolated image – in the time a 60Hz set displays a single frame.“

The result is said to produce less screen blur, minimise flicker and deliver improved screen brightness. Of course, despite all this technical tomfoolery JVC hasn’t forgotten the actual response time itself either and both models sport a nippy 6ms.

Elsewhere neither model manages the full native 1080p but will look reasonably snazzy at 1366 x 768 (enough for 1080i) while the company’s fifth gen D.I.S.T (Digital Image Scaling Technology) Genessa 32-bit CPU video processing boasts it can seamlessly upscale any video source to display at 768p. Connectivity options aren’t sparse either with 2x HDMI, 2x component, 2x S-Video, a 15 pin D-Sub PC input, optical digital audio out and audio output.

Surprisingly the 37 incher will reach us first in August and carries an RRP of $2,700. Its little bro doesn’t come out of the closet until October but does lop $700 off the price. Now if only we all had better eyes to actually detect the differences this stuff makes…
