So we’ve got 32in HD televisions for sub £600 now but if size really is important then Evesham may have the answer…

In a predictably titled ‘World Cup Special’ the company is this week pulling out all the stops to offer up one of its 42in LCDs for just £1,399 including VAT and installation. The HD Ready set doesn’t look to cut many corners either with a WXGA (1366 x 768) resolution screen capable of processing 720p and 1080i broadcasts, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 500 cd/m2 brightness and wide 170 degree viewing angle

Furthermore motion blur should get a good seeing to by the zippy 8ms response time while there are built in analogue and digital TV tuners and support for PIP. Connectivity options are also well catered for with twin component and SCART sockets, as well as D-Sub and DVI-D (HDCP). Audio comes via two 10W integrated speakers but you’ll really want to hook it up to some externals with a dedicated subwoofer if you want to get the best from it.

At 1221 x 725 x 304mm it remains wall mountable and given that a three year warranty is thrown in too the company appears determined to put its money where its mouth is. We’ve had a work with Evesham about getting this set in for review and that looks likely to happen, but if you’re premature in disposition you can simply dash over to Evesham's online retail outlet LowestOnTheWeb here and quote EVE42DTINS to get the ball rolling before the balls start rolling.

‘Ball rolling’… ‘World Cup’… football… sometimes I amaze even myself.
