In an ideal world we would like all ereader covers to be finished in a premium material like leather, to complement the ereader itself – or indeed in some cases to embellish them beyond recognition.

However this would mean you might end up paying more for the cover than you paid for the ereader in the first place and so for the most part, ereader covers are finished with a variety of faux-leather materials, some of which can be very pleasing to the touch indeed.

The case we are looking at here, the Tuff-Luv Embrace case for the Kindle 4 or Kindle Touch, has just such a faux-leather finish but unfortunately it is not very pleasing to the touch and leaves us a little cold when handling it.

The model we have used is the Electric Blue version and the finish is just not very nice on your fingers and once you touch the case you’ll be left in no doubt that the Embrace is not made from real leather. As well as the blue version, there are white, black, brown, autumn brown, plum purple, and stone grey versions.

The inside of the book-style case is made from something called Nubuck, which is a top-grain cattle leather that has been sanded or buffed on the outside. Though considering Tuff-Luv tells us that no animals have been harmed in the making of the cover, then this must be a faux-Nubuck lining to match the cover’s faux-leather.

Your Kindle is kept in place with a couple of elastic straps on the top right- and left-hand corners and a couple of faux-leather straps on the bottom corners. Once fitted, your Kindle is kept in place securely and you have unobstructed access to the page-turning buttons, navigation buttons and the screen lock/unlock button on the bottom of your Kindle.

On the inside of the front cover you’ll find more of the Nubuck lining and an integrated hand-strap, which just about fits four fingers of your hand and theoretically lets you read one-handed. However using it feels very awkward and we imagine most people will simply hold the cover normally for one-handed reading. There is also a pen holder in the middle of the case, but only fairly slim pens or pencils can be accommodated here.

At £22.99 the Embrace case is not hugely expensive and for your money you get a well-built Kindle case which will offer protection for your ereader, however, if you want a premium feel then there are other cases out there which offer more for the same price.

Verdict
The Tuff-Luv Embrace case is certainly a competent cover for your Kindle. It covers all the basics such as protecting your ereader from scratches, knocks and drops while giving you easy access to all the buttons and functions of the Kindle. However the faux-leather finish is not to our tastes and leaves us feeling a little cold.
